Primary Purpose:
The Alumni Success Counselors work with the Director of Alumni Success on a comprehensive support program for our alumni as they choose their scholar elected pathway and matriculate to colleges across the country. The Alumni Success Counselor will use persistence and retention best practices to create a system of structure and support while engaging with high school seniors and alumni towards their post-secondary experience.
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage and lead the alumni support efforts at local and national universities, as well as industry training, within their assigned caseload.
  • Provide monthly curriculum around college persistence efforts leading to increased advocacy, opportunities, and outcomes for alumni.
  • Work directly with higher institutions to support partnerships and gain understanding of all support mechanisms offered on each campus.
  • Create systems of accountability for alumni to increase their ability to advocate for themselves and utilize their resources.
  • Maintain and check in with caseload of scholars to assess their level of success and engagement via in person meetings, phone calls, text messages, campus visits, zoom meetings.
  • Develop engagement opportunities and structures that help our alumni improve their marketability to internships and employers.
  • Establish and build relationships with multiple university stakeholders in various areas including but not limited to: student engagement, admissions, student support services, career services, counseling support, financial aid, student activities and residential life.
  • Lead all communication efforts for alumni on the campuses within caseload.
  • Work directly with Deans of College prep and College Counselors on assigned high school campuses to engage with seniors and collect matriculation data.
  • Work directly with Director of Alumni Success to create programing that engages and supports alumni.

Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years’ experience working in a high functioning, fast-paced organization.
 
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Communication Skills: what level of communication skill is required
  • Bilingual Skills: Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Technology: A data-driven mindset with a history of delivering measurable results
  • An understanding of the academic, financial, and social emotional factors that impact college persistence
  • Flexibility around scheduling and travel, including willingness to work some evening hours and/or some overnight travel.
  • Experience directly advising first-generation and low-income scholars towards college persistence.
  • Discipline to self-start, self-reflect and adaptability to provide best outcomes for alumni.

Physical Demands:
Physical demands may include travel and the ability to adapt to situations as needed.
 
Work Environment:
The work environment is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment requires close proximity to other employees, frequent interruptions, extended periods of time viewing a computer screen, and noise levels from moderate to high. Activity on high school and college campuses may include high energy situations and activities of a distracting nature.
 

Starting Salary:  $50,000
