Primary Purpose:
An Instructional Apprentice provides clerical and instructional support to the classroom, under the supervisor of a classroom teacher. This position is considered a step to a classroom teacher, and candidates who successfully perform in this role may be considered for a teaching residency position with Uplift Education, subject to meeting the programmatic requirements for a teaching residency.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Performs any combination of the following duties in the classroom to assist teaching staff.
• Under the direction of the classroom teacher, may conduct classroom lessons or work with individual students to address learning needs and goals.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings.
• Participates in school-wide and individual professional development activities.
• Performs necessary duties including, but not limited to, car line, lunch, and test monitoring.
• Upon request, chaperones field lessons and field trips.
• Abides by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect.
• Takes attendance, grades homework and tests using answer sheets and records results.
• Distributes teaching materials to students, such as textbooks, workbooks, or paper and pencils.
• Pulls small groups of students to provide differentiated instructional support.
• Operates learning aids, such as film and slide projectors and tape recorders.
• Prepares requisitions for library materials and stockroom supplies.
• Types material and operates duplicating equipment to reproduce instructional materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
• Education Requirements: Dependent upon Educator Preparation Program requirements.
• Experience Requirements: Experience in tutoring or teaching skills highly desirable.
• Special Skills/Certifications: Must be enrolled in a partner Educator Preparation Program.

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and apply common sense to understand and to carry out instructions in written or oral form. Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels of personnel, students, and parents required in written and oral form.
• Bilingual Skills: Spanish speaking a plus • Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be competent in Microsoft Office applications and able to use computer software, including instructional software, as necessary. Ability to use basic office equipment (copier, fax, scanner, etc.) is expected.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and use the wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time.
Work Environment: Must have the ability to work on site with students during the school day.
