Primary Purpose:
The Director of Career Exploration and Experience leads the creation, strategy, and practices for implementing Uplift’s Career Exploration and Experience Office. This office oversees the entire career vertical scope by creating meaningful K-12 opportunities for scholars to explore and experience careers. The Career Exploration and Experience Office will oversee the development of a full-scale Work Based Learning program that allows all Uplift scholars to have the experience of engaging in career related work during the workday that helps scholars understand their own passions and goals and create opportunities for engaging in those experiences. Additionally, this team will support the development of K-12 curriculum that allows scholars to understand more about their career interests and engage in activities that allow them to learn more about their chosen career.

• Serve as the strategic leader of Uplift’s Career Exploration and Experiences Team; Directly manage Manager of Career Exposure and Experience (CEE).
• Oversee career exposure activities, experiences with industry professionals, and personal goal setting, run by the Manager of CEE focusing on increasing scholars’ clarity and confidence in selecting postsecondary pathways aligned to their career interests.
• Develop a coordinated and consistent multi-industry strategy that supports Uplift alumni wherever they may be on the job search continuum.
• Partner with local corporations and local stakeholders and build long-lasting relationships to provide industry specific experiences for current Uplift scholars.
• Remain current with the employment marketplace including trends, research, and best practices within both the employment community as well as student populations to ensure that the Career Exploration Office is providing opportunities that are properly aligned with scholar and employer interests.
• Develop a coordinated and consistent plan for career exposure that includes opportunities for goal setting, career exposure and varied career experiences.
• Create a standard engagement curriculum across all schools, starting in the 7th and 8th grade to expose scholars earlier to career options earlier in the educational process.
• Iterate and grow existing career trips program to allow for improved communication and partnership management.
• Development of a full-scale Work Based Learning program that allows all Uplift scholars to have the experience of engaging in career related work during the workday, that allows scholars to understand their own passions and goals and create opportunities for engaging in those experiences.
• Identify best demonstrated practices, both internal and external, for bringing careers into the classroom and incorporate across the network.
• Works closely with the RTCC team on the campus and at CMO to coordinate and facilitate various informational career-centered workshops for parents and scholars.
• Additional projects and areas as determined by the Managing Director of College & Career or the President.

Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (B. A./ B.S.) from four-year college or university required. Master’s Degree is desirable but not required.  Previous experience working in a career office highly preferred.

Experience Requirements: 
Demonstrated successful work with teens and young adults highly desirable. Ability to build strong relationships. Previous experience managing a team or large-scale. 3+ years of experience in the corporate relations, employer relations, business development, fundraising and/or career services field, preferred.

Special Sills/Certifications: 
Certification as a Certified Career Counselor (CCC) preferred but not required.

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Communication Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, scholars, and administration. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Spanish language fluency preferred but not required.  Ability to provide counseling and life coaching to young adults. Strong skills in interpersonal communication, relationship development, follow-up and contact management
• Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be competent in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) and ability to learn and use computer software as necessary. Ability to use basic office equipment. 
• Other Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  A high threshold for stress and a tireless commitment to excellence in all endeavors. Ability to think strategically and creatively in developing employer outreach.

Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Ability to travel via auto and air to support corporate scholars

Starting Salary: $90,000
