Primary Purpose:
Assist Sr. Director of Finance and Director of Restricted Programs with ensuring fiscal compliance for grant activities, including but not limited to: grant payroll, reconciliation of payroll and grant accounts, financial analysis, financial statement preparation, financial audits and accounting system maintenance and training for federal and other grant awards.

  • Responsible for reviewing and approving all grant expenditures according to program guidelines.
  • Requests journal entries and account reconciliations and documents these processes.
  • Reviews and analyzes general ledger accounts to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
  • Assists with the following: external audits, payroll tax report, records research and special requests.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial statement and reports.
  • Supports programs-related payroll, accounts payable and other finance staff as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate backup for Accounting team as it relates to Cash management, Grant reporting, grant draws and payments, and financial reporting.
  • Ensures accounting records are in compliance with federal EDGAR and State requirements.
  • Reviews and prepares documentation of grant expenses, including invoices, check requests, and payroll records.
  • Maintains accurate Time and Effort reporting of program activities for this position and grant personnel.
  • Creates and manages training relating to federal Education Department General Administrative Guidelines, Texas Universal Grant Management Standards, and Uplift’s Administrative Procedures Manual.
  • Manages program budgets within accounting software.
  • Manage activities related to the semi-annual At-Risk Roster dissemination and collection in conjunction with the State Reporting team.

Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent. 

Experience Requirements:
Minimum 2 years working experience in accounting/finance field. Experience in non-profit fund accounting preferred, but not required.  Experience with accounting of compliance for federal programs preferred, but not required.

Special Skills/Certifications:
Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word processing
Basic math skills
Mastery of both oral and written English with the ability to write general correspondence
Effective organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Work Environment:
Standard office environment.
Starting Salary: $50,000
